OPEN HOMES

Sun 1 May 2-3pm

Watch our tour here:

All the hard work has been done with this unique, low-maintenance 6 year old home. With 5 bedrooms (or 4 with additional living space), a large walk in pantry previously used as an office/craft room plus a sound-dampened external music studio, this double insulated, warm family home has everything you need.

The plywood lining gives a modern and warm look to the rooms while being hard wearing and robust. The décor is tastefully rustic country, and there are little details that add old world charm to this new home. In the winter, the wood stove heats the house, the hot water, runs radiators to the bedrooms and also has a functioning oven. However, there is also an electric stove and hot water to use when the fire isn’t needed, because between the double glazing, double insulation and well positioned windows, this home makes the most of the sun’s heat.

With enough solar panels and a back up battery, this home is ready to pull the plug and go totally off grid, or leave it grid tied to allow yourself more flexibility. Wifi is available from several wireless providers.

Indoor/outdoor living is easy with the dining room opening out on to an expansive patio, covered pergola and and additional decking area surrounding a flat, easy care lawn and stunning rural views all from the securely fenced backyard.

The low input, high output vegetable garden and tunnel house can provide vegetables year round, and the upper food forest and lower separate orchard are already planted and starting to produce fruit. These are perfect areas to raise bees, poultry or a few kunekune pigs.

Below the vegetable gardens there are a variety of small animal sheds and chicken runs ready for the hens to supply you with fresh eggs. There is a brooder house to raise your own chicks in, and a purpose built rabbit shed and goat area too.

Out on the hill there are areas of regenerating native bush on the far side of the gully, and about 2.5-3 acres of useable paddock grass between the top area by the pond and the space down the hill. With some firewood harvesting, this could easily be expanded to make more grazing. Perfect for some dairy goats, or a small house cow, and some sheep.

If you are wanting to ensure your own food security and are looking for some land, look no further. This is the perfect self sufficient home, designed and built on permaculture principles it is waiting for you to move in and enjoy the bountiful harvests. Only a few minutes from several local beaches, and a short and beautiful 30 minute commute from town, you can see why Taieri Beach is becoming a popular place for people to live.

The Nitty Gritty
