Cucumbers can be planted in mounds of rich soil/compost/manure. I never had much success with outdoor cucs, but to be fair I did only try once. Maybe I should try again. They grow amazingly well in a hot house with a frame to climb up.
As weeds continue to take over, keep attacking them regularly with a hoe, keeping the soil aerated and chopping off the baby weeds while they are tiny and fragile.
If you sow some broccoli now it will be ready to harvest in the cooler months.
FRUIT
New gooseberry bushes should be pruned now, removing overlapping internal branches and making an overall good shape. Mulch well with manure.
Raspberry canes need their new shoots from the base thinned to 5-6 per plant, and they can be allowed to grow to one meter. These will be the fruiting canes for next season.
Fruiting trees that have a heavy crop coming through need thinned to encourage a good sized crop.
