Spring is marching on past and in NZ this coming weekend (Labour weekend) is the traditional “get in the garden and get it sorted” weekend. VEGETABLES
Keep on top of the baby weeds as they are coming up. Get yourself a hoe and scrape it along under the surface of the soil, chopping off and disturbing the baby weeds at the same time you fluff up the soil.
Plant out any seedlings you have left to plant out. pretty much anything can now be planted as the risk of frost has passed. For some ideas check out seed sowing timetable. Tomatoes can be planted out either in glass houses, outdoors in a warm north facing spot, or indoors. While you are at the garden centre grab some marigold and nasturtiums to plant in your garden as well.
FRUIT
Plant out the last of your strawberries, berry fruits and fruit trees. If you leave it much later in the season, it will be too hot/dry and the plants will suffer. Give them a good water both before and after transplanting and for a few days after.
