Weekly Garden Diary: Winter Week 6

VEGETABLES

From now on in, every time there is is a mild day, the urge to sow seeds will arise. However, unless you have the most fantastic site, you are a long way off being able to do this.

You can, if you please, sow some broad / fava beans, early peas and turnips. These will germinate best when covered in a cloche or cold frame.

Some people like to put in early potatoes now, but I prefer to wait a little while longer.

FRUIT

Apple or pear trees infested with wooly aphids, scale or red spiders should be sprayed with a winter oil spray. Ensure you cover all the parts of the tree.
